About this Event:

The following course is being presented by Las Vegas Sail and Power Squadron. The 8-hr course material is taught over two 6 ½ -hr days of instruction including a 1-hour exam at the
end on the second day.

America's Boating Course, 3rd Edition, is a completely updated manual with outstanding graphics. The manual is divided into five chapters. The first four chapters, which makes up the material for this course, covers the required topics that all recreational boaters must know. In addition to a discussion of the Navigation Rules and Regulations Handbook, the first four chapters cover the various types of boats, required safety equipment, navigation aids, lights and sounds, anchoring, communications afloat, adverse conditions, water sports safety, trailering, personal watercraft safety, and knots and lines. Nevada Boating Laws are also included in the instruction. After successful completion of this course, you will receive a “Boater Education Card’ issued by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

There is a fee associated with this course, but it is not NDOW fee. It is a fee associated with the Las Vegas Sail and Power Squadron.

You must go to www.lvsps.org or call at 775-419-2460 to register for this course.

About the Program

Overview:

Did you know that 70% of all boating fatalities occurred on boats where the operator did not receive boating safety instruction? Keep you and your family safe and meet the state education requirement.  Nevada boaters born on or after January 1, 1983 are required to complete a Nevada Department of Wildlife approved boater education course before operating a boat on interstate waters. It’s also why NDOW strongly recommends everyone get their boating education card before heading out on the water.

In-person courses are available through the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the US Power Squadron.
